Big thanks to our venue!

A huge thank you to x+why for providing a stunning space to host Cowork Crew Birmingham!

x+why’s innovative green workspaces support communities of businesses, employees, and leaders who believe that business should be used as a force for good.

Each of our sites is designed with its own unique heritage and character in mind, filled with locally sourced furniture and art, and all the mod-cons you would expect.

Part of being a B Corp Certified Business means creating products that prioritise the environment. For us, that means building and renovating flexible workspaces that help to protect the natural resources around us. Foundry is a special example of how to do this. Previously designed as an office space, x+why have avoided needlessly multiplying the building’s carbon footprint by upcycling, refreshing, and injecting a new spirit and character.

Foundry is designed to support and inspire young, impact-led companies on their journey to profit. With wellbeing, collaboration, and fun at the heart of this entrepreneurial hub, it is more than just a place to put your laptop, it’s a destination for business and personal development. Alongside a thriving community are amenities that the largest of corporates would be proud of – ranging from event space to a tech- enabled gym.

x+why are committed to uniting and inspiring a like-minded community of changemakers, and most importantly working collaboratively to amplify all of their great work.

Your hosts

Sophie Blackmore, Founder of Happy Marketer Ltd. & Dave James, Speaker Coach
Soph is a marketer, quite a good one. Marketing coach for Fabric, local exec board member for charity Cash for Kids and founder of Happy Marketer Ltd, she specialises in marketing magic for maxed-out MDs, simplifying marketing success for technical minds through her blend of self-deprecating humour and pragmatic approach.

She’s also author of 'It's Only Bloody Marketing', which explores how making marketing better is surprisingly simple when you stop getting in your own way.

Dave was once described as an “irritatingly good speaker”, and it must be true, because he’s got the recording to prove it. He’s a speaker coach who helps people turn their ideas into talks that audiences actually want to listen to.

An Editor’s Pick TEDx speaker, stand-up comedy host and event MC, Dave also runs his Speaking Without Freaking workshops. With a background in healthcare, he blends humour, mindfulness and the occasional dodgy hospital joke. If you feel like you’re dying on stage, Dave can probably help you with some CPR.

When he’s not coaching or speaking, he’s usually writing daily on LinkedIn, running men’s mindfulness sessions, or trying to convince his kids that his music taste is cool. He’s also a world-class hugger.

Have a question?

Cowork Crew takes the best bits of coworking and networking and jumbles it together in a once-a-month 1 day event.

It’s all about that magic that happens when you bring freelancers and micro business owners together.

You can expect:

  • Friendly faces
  • Time to work & time to meet new people
  • An awesome speaker or a group session on a shared challenge
  • Cake!

We’re here for the self-employed, whatever title you give yourself!

If you run your own thing, with or without partner(s), you’ll fit right in.

The idea is to get us out of the home office/coffee shop/kitchen table and into a room full of lovely folk who get what it’s like to wear all-the-hats.

Of course! We're a super-welcoming bunch!

The 'why' behind Cowork Crew is to help the self-employed get out of the home office/coffee shop/kitchen table and do better because we have each other.

So the speaker topics and our general content will always be aimed at freelancers, founders and micro business owners.

But we love meeting new faces. And if you work from home and fancy a day's company you are very welcome to join us.

We get it, we work for ourselves for many reasons, including schedule flexibility.

Come for as much of the day as makes sense for you.

You can bring lunch with you, or take the day-out excuse to nip to a local lunch spot.

Make sure you leave some room, as we’ll have cake to pick us all up during that mid-afternoon slump!

The Quad at ONE Station Hill is a stunning workspace with everything needed for a lovely day of coworking. There's lots of desk space, tea & coffee and social spaces. There’s also all the normal stuff, like water and toilets.

You’re welcome to take a call during Cowork Crew day. You can tuck yourself slightly out of the ‘main’ space in the breakout space if you want to avoid sitting around others while chatting.

We don’t have a completely private space available (as in a completely separate room) however, so it’s probably not the best time to run a webinar!

The benefits of spending a day coworking together go well beyond getting work done.

Feel free to chat to anyone who has the vibe they’re up for it.

Or go to a social space to chat more in-depth if you'd like to.

No worries, life/clients/things happen! We offer refunds up to 24 hours before the event starts, no questions asked.

You bought your ticket through Eventbrite. Hop over to your Eventbrite account and request a refund and we'll do the rest.

If it isn't clear how to do this, here's Eventbrite's docs on how to request a refund.

You'll get all of your fee refunded, bar Eventbrite's ticketing fee.

Reading train station is only a few minutes walk away.

If you are driving in, the closest place to park is Reading train station. Alternatively you can find a list and map of Reading car parks here.

The full address is The Quad, One Station Hill Square, Station Hill, Reading, RG1 1NR.
